Our culture often promotes the opposite of Christ-centered community. We are prompted to take care of ourselves and avoid letting others into the messy crevices of our lives. And because of this culture, it can be tempting to pull away from community in difficult seasons. A fear of disapproval or that no one will understand keeps us from experiencing life-giving friendships. So, we hide away during the hardships, believing the lie that it’s just “better” that way. Just “easier” if we don’t burden anyone else with our struggles. However, this life of solitude and self-interest robs us of one of God’s sweetest gifts.
A gift that all of our souls deeply need.
Community is part of God’s design for growth. We were never intended to do life alone, instead we are to link arms and lean into the messy, together.
Cracking open our brokenness and sharing it with our people unlocks a deeper level of friendship that is rich with encouragement and love.
Community is not just a suggestion, but truly the way Christ intended us to live. A life of community is something we are to commit ourselves to, embracing it and making it a priority. Immersing ourselves in the communities God has placed us in lifts our focus off of our own lives and gives us the chance to meet the needs of others.
God tells us in Hebrews 10:24-25 to, “consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
And can’t we just all agree that being with our people is just a ton of fun?! It adds excitement to the mundane and gives us a chance to laugh and simply enjoy being together. How amazing it is that God’s design for our lives is full of so much joy and is meant to replenish and restore.
“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” Psalm 133:1
Community is crucial during our weeks. When we surround ourselves with others who are also pursuing Christ it can be a wonderful reminder to focus our attention back to Him when we have fallen away. Believers can sharpen each other where the other is weak and provide accountability.
