  • So tell us about how you got into fitness and what inspired you to open True40 Downtown Birmingham?

I’ve been a fitness enthusiast since I can remember, and I especially love group classes. I’ve always dreamed of owning a fitness studio, so when I found True40 in 2016, I prayerfully decided to leave “corporate America” to manage True40’s first location in Birmingham, in Cahaba Heights. From day one on the job, our founder Allie worked with me to make my dream a reality, and I’m so thankful that she is trusting me with my very own True40. After teaching True40 classes since 2016, managing the Cahaba Heights studio and team, and earning my personal trainer certification, I feel equipped and very excited to own a True40 location!

  • What do you love about True40?

So. Many. Things. Five minutes into the first True40 class I ever took, I knew it was exactly where I was meant to be. I love the different components of class – I never get bored, and I can modify to my needs or challenge my strengths, even with my back problems. I appreciate how True40 classes help me build long, lean muscles while still challenging my cardio endurance (kicking my butt!). I’ve seen so many changes in my body and the bodies of clients, and it’s so fun to be a part of that. I adore the True40 community – staff and clients – because it is so empowering, strong and welcoming!

  • Tell us about your family.

My husband Hunter and I live in Avondale with our rescue pup, Zoey. Hunter and I met after college when we were both in a wedding (it’s a really cool story!). Hunter was born and raised in Birmingham and I attended high school here, so we are very invested in Birmingham’s revitalization. We’re so excited to be a part of it now, too! My parents are in Atlanta and my younger brother lives in Denver. They all know and love True40, and hope to have one in their cities one day. 🙂

  • What’s a good piece of advice that you try to live by?

Dream big dreams and go after them. Think about what you want or what you feel called to do, identify any barriers and make a plan to overcome them, and don’t be afraid to fail. Pursuing a dream may lead you down an unexpected path, but it will always, always be worth it!

  • Tell us about the downtown location?

True40 Downtown Birmingham will be located in the Battery, an exciting new development right around the corner from Birmingham School of Law. The tenant mix is such a fin and dynamic group: The Syndicate Lounge, District Brewing, Gus’s Chicken and more. I’m already envisioning some post-workout beers… 🙂

  • True40’s mantra is all about “staying true to you.” How do you stay true to Kaitlyn?

I like to periodically assess the passions, commitments and distractions in my life to make sure they line up with my foundational beliefs and values. My faith, husband, friends/family and health are all top priorities. Am I investing enough in these areas? Are there any distractions or commitments that I could cut out to allow more time for these priorities? Evaluating this every few months helps me stay on track and makes me feel like I’m staying true to who I am.

  • What do you want to tell clients before their first class?

I can’t WAIT to meet you! I promise you a fun, challenging hour that will leave you balanced, energized and ready to tackle your day. Come try us out!
